What is old is new
The COVID-19 pandemic circled the globe in record time. As of May 24th, over 5 million reported cases and still rising. The death toll thus far in excess of 300,000. This is an entirely new set of events for governments in the 21st Century. Yet these numbers don’t begin to tell the story of what is really happening.
First, this new virus is not influenza. This makes its appearance even more ominous. As the rainforests in Africa have given way to development, there is a steady stream of pathogens that have appeared on the scene. The most problematic of all of these is HIV. It has infected and killed millions. This is because it is a slow acting virus. It is not one that kills quickly. So in the decades since it’s emergence, the medical community has found ways to cool it off, and let people survive. That’s the good news.
There is a very dark underbelly in the virus kingdom that should give everyone pause. This is the thawing of the poles. There have already been several cases of thawing reindeer, wolfs, and bears that were infected with anthrax that killed entire herds of reindeer. As the poles continue their thaw, what else will emerge from the ice? This is no longer the realm of science-fiction stuff but a reality that could prove lethal to humanity. The deniers would simply ignore it until it’s at their doorstep but if that’s the case it’s too late.
For decades primal African and Latin American rainforests have been destroyed along with eco-systems that held the planet together. The collapse of these systems has created the emergence of these pathogens. The big to-do about climate change may end in the human race being hunted down by primordial creatures that were called forth by us destroying the bio-systems that existed for eons. They will show us no mercy. They let us exist with them for millions of years as we were no threat but as we have destroyed so much of the planet, these defenders of Earth will rise and take their revenge upon us.
I suppose we are just apes with big brains who figured out stuff and became so arrogant that we thought we were gods. We saw nature as something to be conquered, killed, and subdued. Sadly, we have so much blood on our hands that we need to figure out how to atone for our transgressions. I’m not sure where we can begin. From slaves, animal slaughter, indigenous peoples, the cruelty is beyond comprehension.
The elites of the world simply ignore all of this, travel in their helicopters, private jets, and look down from Mount Olympus and smile. They own the land, the production facilities, and want to keep the peons in their place. This is business as usual. There are good people in this world who want to make a difference. They write articles, donate money, and hope for the best. In the end, it’s not enough! In the next two years, the world morphs into a dystopian place that will resemble the 1900s’ The next decade will be the decade of the “rulers” who control everything. It will be a dark time. Then in 2040 the climate apocalypse begins with a vengeance. No one had any idea that the planet could turn so lethal. Yet in the end, it’s simply humans playing god and forgetting they are not really god. The result for the human race will be close to total destruction. I’m not sure what Kim Jung Un will do as the world collapses around him.
